As the new intern at Magnet PR I paid a visit to Sparkle Cupcakery in Surry Hills last week. The first thing I noticed upon entering is that this is no ordinary “cutesy” cupcakery. The store is sleek, modern and hip which fits in perfectly with the Surry Hills vibe.

With 16 mouth-watering flavours to choose from, you can imagine my predicament. As a self-confessed chocolate lover, naturally I decided on the Milk Chocolate cupcake, cliché... maybe, but no regrets here! The Belgian chocolate cake and frosting was moist and really hit the spot. What I also found impressive was the packaging. The cupcakes are packaged in stylish black paper bags with the silver Sparkle logo, which gives a fashionable twist to an already extraordinary cupcakery.

On the 10th March, Sparkle Cupcakery will be officially launching a new book titled, “Sparkle Cupcakes: The Little Black Book” and personally, I cannot WAIT to get my hands on a copy. The book features gourmet cupcake recipes from Valentine’s Day cupcakes to NYC cupcakes, minimalist decorating techniques, and handy hints for styling. Following the modern and fashion-forward concept of the store, the book will introduce to its audience a new world that has been discovered through the art of cupcake making, where cupcakes really are the ‘LBD’ (Little Black Dress) of the foodie world.

My suggestion? When you need a little luxury in your life, celebrate with a delicious cupcake from Sparkle Cupcakery www.sparklecupcakery.com.au

Book available through most good bookstores around Australia and the Sparkle store (132 Foveaux St, Surry Hills) as of March 1, 2011

New York by Night...by Millie Paul

Img_2631

Most people need little convincing when it comes to visiting New York City. But like any big city, it can be overwhelming to newcomers and many of the more interesting, quirky and uber cool spots are missed. It's for this reason that traveling to NYC is undoubtably better when you have a local to show you around. I have had the pleasure of spending the last 2 weeks in this fabulous city being hosted by a dear friend whom calls NYC home and thought it pertinent to share some of my favourite nightspots in the big apple...

Soho House in NYC is a must do for those wishing to enjoy an 'after-work' (i.e. shopping and sightseeing) aperitif. A little tricky to get in, although with a friend in the know you just might be able to get your name on the list and enjoy a cocktail in 'the library' or in one of their many other 'cocktail lounge hidden behind a maintenance door' bars.

'The Darby' is a new restaurant that has opened in 14th street that offers an authentic 'New York Supper Club' experience with live music and amazing food. Best enjoyed for a late dinner around 9pm so you can catch the best of the live entertainment and I highly recommend the Rockefeller Oysters and Grilled Octopus- delicious!

To cap the night off, head to The Standard hotel in the trendy Meat Packing District to enjoy a drink and a dance at the 'Boom Boom Room'. No questions about where the name comes from but as you might expect this bar is brimming with celebrities and NY socialites. Whilst this might not be your thing; they have killer cocktails and a pumping dancing floor into the early hours of the morning. The bar also boasts views of the NYC skyline all the way downtown.

Of course there is always more to see and do but these three bars/restaurants will make any NYC visit unforgettable.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

Pinata-Filled Fun at the Launch of Lotforty "Sangria Club"

On the 25th January, Sydney’s finest socialites including Shelly Horton, Bianca Venuti, James Duffell, Chloe Duffell (Sabatini), Daniel Sofo (Firefly), Elle Halliwell (The Insider), Kellee Cruse (Santos Wish), and many more, gathered in Darlinghurst to celebrate the launch of Lotforty Tapas Restaurant’s “Sangria Club”, sponsored by Square One Organic Vodka & Jed Wines. “Sangria Club” allows locals to enjoy jugs of sangria for $10 or two tapas plates and a jug of sangria for $30 every Wednesday & Thursday from 5pm-11pm. Ladies and gentlemen, adorned with Spanish fans, mingled over icy jugs of red wine sangria and drooled over the refreshing white wine sangria while the live Spanish guitarist's smooth tunes surrounded the courtyard, creating a truly festive Spanish vibe . Two lucky girls gave the chilli and guitar shaped piñatas a good beating, only to be showered with prizes such as a voucher for Lotforty's "Sangria Club" and fabulous Valentine’s Day bracelets from Santos Wish. The night was a success, and a great way to kick off the Australia Day Eve celebrations in style.
